WoodStairCo's Red Oak Landing Panel System is the purpose-built solution for finishing staircase landings, pie steps, kite-shaped steps, and other large, irregular stair surfaces that standard treads cannot cover. Engineered tongue-and-groove panels that install like hardwood flooring - snap together, glue and nail down, and finish on-site or choose a prefinished stain color to match your existing treads.
Each bundle covers approximately 13 square feet - enough for most residential staircase landings and multi-piece pie step configurations. Available unfinished (for a custom stain match) or prefinished in 16 stain colors, including Natural, Gunstock, Smoke, Dusk, Butterscotch, and more.

What Is the Landing Panel System - and When Do You Need It?
A staircase landing is the flat platform between flights of stairs, at the top of a staircase, or where the stairs turn. Pie steps (wedge-shaped) and kite steps (diamond-shaped) are common in curved or L-shaped staircases. These surfaces are too large and irregular for standard stair treads - the Landing Panel System is the correct product for these areas.
The panels are 3/4 inch thick tongue-and-groove Red Oak - engineered with a 10-ply base and a 4mm+ solid Red Oak wear layer. The engineered construction handles climate variation better than solid wood, while the thick wear layer delivers the look and feel of solid hardwood.

When Do You Need the Landing Panel System?
Staircase Landing Platform
The flat platform at the top of a staircase, between two flights, or where the stairs turn to another direction. Standard treads cannot span a landing; the Landing Panel System provides a consistent surface that matches your tread species and stain.
Pie Steps and Kite Steps
Pie steps are wedge-shaped steps in curved or L-shaped staircases where the tread is wider at the open end than the wall end. Kite steps are diamond-shaped. Both are too irregular for standard rectangular treads - the Landing Panel System cuts to shape and covers them cleanly.
Matching Retro or Traditional Tread Renovations
If you are installing retro or traditional treads throughout your staircase, the landing and any pie steps must match. The Landing Panel System is available in all the same stain colors as WoodStairCo's Retro Stair Treads and Traditional Stair Treads - order the matching color for a consistent staircase renovation from bottom to top.
How to Install the Landing Panel System
Step 1: Prepare the surface - remove carpet, tack strips, staples, and adhesive residue. Surface must be clean, flat, and dry.
Step 2: Plan the layout - tongue-and-groove panels run parallel to the leading edge (the nosing side) of the landing.
Step 3: Install the landing tread first - the Landing Tread (sold separately) goes on the leading edge before the panels fill the field.
Step 4: Apply adhesive - use Loctite PL Premium construction adhesive to the back face of each panel.
Step 5: Snap and nail - tongue-and-groove panels snap together; secure with a brad nailer through the tongue at 6-inch intervals.
Step 6: Finish - if unfinished, sand, apply stain, and apply 2 coats of polyurethane. If prefinished, the install is complete.
