Landing Tread (also called "stairnose" or just "nosing") is installed at the very top of a staircase as the final "step". Landing tread is 3/4" thick and is grooved along the back edge to accept a standard 3/4" flooring tongue. Landing tread is also used in combination with our panel system to provide the bullnosed leading edge of landings and pie steps. Most staircase remodels will need at least one landing tread unless it is to be supplied from the flooring provider.

Product Questions and Answers
  1. Q:Is 36 inches a standard stair tread width?
A:36" is the standard minimum width for townhomes, condos, basement staircases, and older homes. Most US residential building codes require a minimum 36" clear stair width. If measuring a tight staircase — townhouse, older colonial, or basement — 36" treads will typically fit. Always measure wall to wall before ordering.
  2. Q:What is the Butterscotch stain color?
A:Butterscotch (D34) is a rich amber-honey stain — slightly deeper and more orange than Golden Oak, between Natural and Gunstock in intensity. Warm and inviting, works well in traditional, craftsman, and colonial interiors. Pairs well with honey-pine trim, oak cabinetry, and cream or beige walls. A close match to orange-amber warm-toned floors.
  3. Q:How is a landing tread installed?
A:Landing treads install the same way as retro treads: clean the landing edge, apply Loctite PL Premium adhesive to the back, press firmly into position, and secure with a brad nailer. Landing treads are typically 5-1/4" wide and cover only the front edge of the landing — not the full landing surface. Installation time: 15–20 minutes per landing tread.
  4. Q:What is a landing tread and how is it different from a stair tread?
A:A landing tread is installed on the staircase landing — the flat platform between flights or at the top. Unlike a stair tread, a landing tread is typically flush on all sides since it covers only the front edge of the landing. Typically 5-1/4" wide. Available in the same species and stain colors as stair treads for a matched look. Significantly less expensive than full stair treads — $14–$57 per piece.
