White Oak Unfinished Traditional Riser 48 in

This 48-inch White Oak Unfinished Traditional Riser is the standard-width companion to White Oak treads for contemporary staircases. Unfinished and ready to finish on-site- sand, stain, and seal to match your treads and floors exactly.

White Oak's tight grain and grey-green undertones make it the go-to species for grey-wash, natural oil, wire-brushed, and dark espresso finishes- all the styles that define modern American home design. If your staircase has White Oak treads or your home has White Oak floors, this is the correct riser.

INSTALLATION NOTE

Finish before installation for the cleanest result. Apply stain and 2 coats finish. Allow 48 hours to cure. Apply Loctite PL Premium adhesive to the back face. Secure with brad nailer or finish nails. Caulk riser-tread joint.

    A:Yes. Unfinished hardwood treads accept any oil-based or water-based stain. Sand lightly with 120-grit, apply chosen stain, allow to dry, then apply 2–3 coats of polyurethane. For floor matching: bring a floor sample to a paint store to identify the correct stain. We also offer a Red Oak Stain Colors Sample Pack for testing before committing to full treads.

    A:Not always. Open-riser staircases have no risers by design. Closed staircases already have risers that may not need replacing unless damaged. For a full retro tread installation, replacing risers at the same time gives the cleanest result — especially if existing risers are chipped, stained, or mismatched. Retro risers use the same adhesive + brad nailer method as treads.

    A:Use the same stain product, same application method, and same finish coat on both risers and treads- applied in the same session from the same batch of stain. This gives the most consistent result. Natural (no stain) + polyurethane will show slight variation due to different surface areas, which is normal.
