Red Oak Golden Oak Retro Stair Tread Closed 11.5 in wide x 36 in long - shipped pre-stained in Golden Oak and then finished with our UV Cured Diamond Coat II - ready to be cut-to-size and installed as soon as you receive them.

Golden Oak in the 36-inch length- the most affordable way to get WoodStairCo's classic light honey-gold prefinished finish. Install over existing steps in 30–40 minutes. Ideal for townhomes, condos, basement stairs, and any narrow staircase where an existing Golden Oak or similar light-tone floor needs a matching upgrade.

  1. Q:The price that is shown is for how many stair treads?
    A:All of our products are sold by the piece. Prefinished cove moulding is sold in 78 in pieces but treads and risers are sold by the piece.

  2. Q:Is the Minwax Golden Oak finish on these Retro Stair Treads high gloss? semigloss? satin? What doe "close" mean?
    A:Our standard UV finish gloss level is a semi-gloss which falls in the range of 65-70. We use the term "closed" when the tread has no returns. Sometimes this type of tread is more commonly called a "box" tread. In short, a closed tread will have a wall or kneewall on both sides of the step, opposed to a left or right return.     A:"Prefinished Red Oak Natural" is a clear aluminum oxide finish.

  4. Q:Does this tread come in a thickness less than 3/4"? Also if I install the tread on the first step the distance from the floor to the top of the first tread would be 8 3/4'" with the rest being 8" is that normal?
    A:3/4" is the thinnest tread we make. The 3/4" Stair Tread on the first step will not be an issue, since all the treads are being increased by the same amount. You will not be able to feel or see a difference. The very top step will be a little lower, unless you install the Landing Tread. The landing tread is 3/4" thick also, and has a groove in the back for carpet or hardwood to be set in the groove. So all of the steps will be 8 3/4" if you are putting a retro tread on each step.

    A:Yes, you should order standard size treads and cut to fit onsite.

    A:Yes- the Golden Oak prefinished colour is consistent across all tread lengths. The stain is applied in the same factory run to ensure colour uniformity. Natural grain variation in Red Oak may create slight visual differences, but the stain tone is the same.

    A:For a 13-step narrow staircase: 13 × $57.43 treads = $746. Add 13 × $14.77 white risers = $192. Add cove moulding (13 pieces × $3.60 = $47). Add 3 tubes of Loctite PL ($27). Estimated total: approximately $1,012 in materials- a fraction of full replacement cost ($3,000–$8,000+)

  9. Q:Can the 36-inch Golden Oak tread be used on carpet stairs?
    A:Yes- but all carpet, tack strips, and staples must be removed before installation. The existing tread surface must be clean, flat, and dry. Sand or grind any adhesive residue flat before applying the retro tread
