A:The edges of the risers are not finished. For return treads, I recommend that you use S4S on the edges of the wall where you will see the unfinished edge of the riser. S4S will match your treads, and is found here: http://woodstairco.com/moulding-and-accessories/other-moulding.html

A:The overall length of this tread is 42", including the mitered return on the edge. In other words, the "flat part" or body of the tread is 40 3/4" wide and the mitered return is 1 1/4" for a total of 42". If you need a tread body longer than 40 3/4", you may need to step up to a 48" return tread.

A:The inside "throat" length of all single return treads is 1-1/4" shorter than the tread because the tread is made from a closed tread of the same length. For example, these will be the inside measurements of each single return tread: [42": 40-3/4"] [48": 46-3/4"] [54": 52-3/4"] [60": 58-3/4"]
